Andy Li
Andy Li, PhD, CFA and FRM, is currently a science manager at Amazon, leading AI efforts in Amazon Ads business. He has over 15 years of analytical and managerial experiences in the financial industry ranging across trading, economic forecasting and portfolio management. His last role at Wells Fargo is Director, Head of NLP, foreseeing AI solutions across different LOBs. His team used advanced machine learning techniques such as NLP, Bert transformer to generate quantitative insights from unstructured data. Andy started his career trading Agency MBS in Citigroup, New York and then moved to California to work for a hedge fund, specialized in quantitative investments. He then joined Moody’s Analytics and led development of its flagship products, Risk Frontier and CMM. Prior to joining Wells Fargo, Andy worked for Bank of America Merrill Lynch Global Corporate and Investment Banking unit, leading innovations to drive responsible growth. His machine learning based recession forecast model, in collaboration with BAML’s US economist Michelle Meyer, was reported by Bloomberg in Dec. 2018. His team helped manage the bank’s $1T loan portfolios using proprietary transaction data. Andy holds a Ph.D and M.S of Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a Master of Financial Engineering from UC Berkeley. He studied in Program for Leadership - HBS's fast-track EMBA at Harvard Business School, Harvard University and is an HBS alumni. In his part time, he teaches two courses “Deep Learning in Finance” and “NLP in Finance” at Gabelli Business School at Fordham University, NYC.
